Hard to believe this happy pirate screamed at, berated, and generally was ugly nasty to me less than 4 hours after this picture was taken.
Pluses:
- His insomnia is better
- He is no longer this nasty borderline psycho person
- He is a bit more predictable
- He is no longer purchasing the most off the wall stuff from ebay
- Most of the negative psychological side effects are gone (including temper and outbursts).
Minuses:
- More tremors
- The LDopa isn’t lasting as long
- Muscle spasms
- Some loss of muscle control
It’s a hard decision. He felt so good with the Mirapex. It would’ve ended our marriage though – he suspects it and I know it for fact. I actually lived in fear for what he’d do next and – for a while – lived in fear that he wouldn’t go off of it. It was like this high he was getting. It took something fairly bad for him to wake up and see it was causing some real problems — both in his personality AND in our marriage. Thankfully he spoke to his doctor and they both agreed it should be stopped.
Ugly ugly drug. I predict more lawsuits as time progresses — no not from us. Parkinson’s is ugly enough to take the risk with the negative side effects. But what about the poor people with restless leg syndrome? Is this drug and the truly odd (and frankly a bit scary) side effects worth it?
A link from askapatient listing some rather scary side effects.
Remember the lawsuit risk I mentioned?
**I took the photo above at The Greene Turtle on April 19, 2008 during the Fells Point Pirate Invasion’s Pirate Pub Crawl.
My husband started taking Mirapex over 10 years ago for RLS.
He started with 1/4 of the smallest dose possible, and now
takes 2 or 3 tablets of the l.5 pills.
After many personality changes and many arguments, I saw the warnings on TV about side effects. I asked our Doctor and was made to feel like I was CRAZY, and she continued to write perscription after perscription increasing
his doseage.
After amost 40 years of marriage, I don’t know where to turn. He plays poker on this computer (free, so I’m told)
morning, noon, night. If he’s in the house, within min. he on the computer. He seems to be “drawed” to the computer, he once enjoyed watching Tv——not any more, he sleeps or pouts until he’s playing cards. He was even getting up a 3 a.m. to play (but after me insisting on councleling thats stopped)
He plays poker at with a group of men twice a week. (with money). He was going to the casino, but has recent and for now has stopped.
He was also shopping and buying items on EBay, but for now that seems to have slowed down.
Now, he’s buying $20 Lottery tickets.
So, this morning I was told he’s going to continue taking Mirapex because he can’t live without, and he’s going to continue to play cards and that I”M the one causing all our fights.
I’ve talked to doctors (but they don’t acknowledge any problems with the medicine,) I’ve been to counselors.
It’s not only the gambling, and shopping, he does fall asleep, so I do almost all the driving. He shakes with tremors all over his body, both awake and especially while he’s sleeping.
Hello! Please check out this YouTube video that my father made regarding the compulsive behavior effects of Mirapex. He needs to collect as much data as he can regarding how Mirapex effects those who have taken it to try and prove that there are many more behaviors than the pharmaceutical companies will admit to. I have experienced the compulsive horrors first-hand. We do not want to give at this time information on my compulsive behavior as to not prejudice the study. :o(
Thanks! Mary
